About

PhillyDame is the personal blog of Melody Kramer, a freelance writer and audio producer from Philadelphia.

I grew up in South Jersey, moved to Philadelphia for college, and then worked for a while at NPR, first as a Kroc Fellow in Washington D.C. and then as the director and associate producer of NPR’s humor show, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me out in Chicago. At Wait Wait I booked our celebrity guests, edited the show, wrote a portion of the script, produced segments and promos, and handled all social networking and media — before I moved back to Philly after a car accident. (I’m perfectly fine. But after rolling across I-95 multiple times, I realized that I wanted to live closer to my family.)

I’m looking for a full-time job and/or freelance work in the Philadelphia area. My skills include editing, radio production, reporting, social media, web production, and generating all sorts of content under really tight deadlines.

I have written for NPR.org, Esquire Magazine, National Geographic, The Daily Pennsylvanian, and The Pennsylvania Gazette and contribute a weekly column to Seriouseats.com.

I know a lot about Philadelphia, Chicago, books, photography, Jewish humor, the history of science and medicine, and chocolate — but can write or edit just about any topic. I would be happy to send you additional clips or a formal resume.
